📝Midwest Challenger📝 League — Team Rules & Roster Eligibility
1. Overview
The Midwest Challenger League (MCL) is a grassroots League of Legends competition designed to spotlight local talent and create structured, regional esports opportunities. To uphold competitive integrity and maintain a Midwest focus, all teams must meet strict eligibility and roster rules.
This applies to Split 1, hosted out of Minnesota.
2. Roster Composition
2.1 Team Size
- Each team must consist of 5 starting players. 
- Teams may optionally register up to 2 substitutes, bringing the total maximum roster to 7 players. 
- Only registered players are allowed to compete. 
3. Regional Eligibility
3.1 Approved States
Players must reside in one of the following Midwest states:
- Minnesota 
- Wisconsin 
- North Dakota 
- South Dakota 
- Iowa 
- Illinois 
- Michigan 
- Ohio 
- Indiana 
- Kansas 
- Nebraska 
- Missouri 
3.2 Team Structure
- Each team must include at least 4 players from the same state listed above. 
- The 5th player may reside in any other approved Midwest state. 
- Teams must maintain this structure throughout the season — including during live matches. 
4. Split 1 Residency Requirement
For the inaugural Split 1 (Summer 2025):
- All teams must have at least 4 players from the same state. 
- The 5th player may still come from any other listed Midwest state. 
- Canadian player are welcome to join, but must only be allowed in the +1 of a registered team. 
5. Ranked Requirements
To maintain a competitive environment:
- Each individual player must be at least Platinum IV in Solo/Duo Queue. 
- The average rank of the 5 starting players must be Diamond IV or higher. 
- Teams not meeting these standards will not be approved for league play. 
- Riot IDs must be submitted for verification purposes. Smurfing or false rank reporting may lead to disqualification. 
6. Substitutes & Roster Changes
- Substitutes must meet all the same residency and rank requirements. 
- Roster changes during the season are not allowed unless approved by league staff for emergencies. 
- A substitute may not shift the team away from the required 4+1 state residency balance. 
7. Verification & Compliance
- Players are not required to submit verification documents unless asked by league administration. 
- If requested, players must be able to provide proof of residency (e.g., school ID, driver's license, utility bill — sensitive info may be blurred). 
- The league reserves the right to investigate and penalize violations. 
8. Team Identity & Naming
- Teams may optionally represent their majority state in their name and branding. 
 (e.g., “Illinois Inferno,” “Dakota Frost”)
- Names must follow community guidelines and be approved by the league. 
9. Violations
Breaking these rules may result in:
- Match forfeiture 
- Removal from the current season 
- Disqualification from future events
